The SME Controller plays an essential leadership role within our organization, directly managing the accounting department, guiding the billing team, and overseeing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls.

This position is a vital component of our internal succession plan, supporting the transition of our current Controller to a new role. The individual selected for this role will actively participate in the execution of our transition strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an integral part of operational accounting and monthly reporting.
  • Lead the Accounting team.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, federal, state and local regulations and internal controls.
  • Advance finance initiatives under the direction of the Controller/CFO.
  • Drive process improvement and automation across the accounting function.
  • Perform month‑end close, reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain reconciliations of general ledger accounts, fixed assets, and other financial records.
  • Assist with audits:
  • Annual CPA review.
  • Annual 401k Audit.
  • Coordinate annual 1099 reporting.
  • Oversee payroll process.
  • Gain an understanding of our billing process to support the billing team and project managers.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA Preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years accounting experience (10 years preferred), with at least five years of leadership experience.
  • AEC Industry experience preferred.

Education Required
