Description

The Senior Construction Inspector is responsible for leading the technical aspects of various construction projects, reporting, and serving as a liaison between field staff and office staff. Work will include ensuring all applicable permits and approved plans related to site layouts, grading plans, utility systems, stormwater management, soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, and street improvements on a variety of construction projects including residential, office, retail, restaurant, infrastructure, and renewable energy for private and public clients.

Work may also include construction administration, specifications, traffic control, permitting, local, state, and federal compliance issues, reporting, and public relations/communication.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage client/contractor relationships and serve as liaison between office and field staff
  • Assist with ensuring proper staffing levels on construction projects
  • Coordinate with staff regarding various inspection, operations, and maintenance activity
  • Ensure construction is being performed to quality standards in compliance with design specifications, drawings, budget and schedule
  • Oversee materials testing and pavement evaluation programs
  • Provide oversight and leadership for staff in carrying out construction supervision including contract administration, quality control, construction monitoring and evaluation, and other relevant activities
  • Assist with holding field staff accountable for maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations
  • Correspond regularly with clients, municipality officials on all project related matters
  • Lead communication with contractors and subcontractors on all engineering projects
  • Coordinate regularly with other departments including administrative, marketing, business development, GIS, land development, and surveying services
  • Act as technical resource for junior staff
  • Recommend solutions for construction related matters on various projects
  • Correspond with private and public agencies
  • Preparation of quantities for construction estimates
  • Preparation of bid documents for private, public, and other governmental agency projects
  • Prepare project specifications and standard details
  • Perform field inspections of existing water, sewer, road, and other infrastructure as necessary
  • Plot, organize and assemble project‑related documents, permit applications, and cut sheets
  • Exercise judgment with adaptations of engineering alternatives while adhering to Company standards and methodologies
  • Perform QA/QC review on construction drawings, technical reports, and other project related documents
  • Inspect completed work and sign‑off on quality of workmanship along with crew leaders and external subcontractors
  • Interpret construction plans, standards and specifications
  • Coordinate work between agencies, contractor and other city departments (interact with contractors and their representatives while representing the contract owner)
  • Develop construction observation guide and maintenance of preconstruction, construction, and closeout execution plans
  • Assist in reviewing project drawings and specifications to gain a full understanding of project scope, client goals and expectations, and resource requirements for each phase of the project
  • Identify construction approaches and risks to ensure efficiency and mitigate exposure
  • Solicit and coordinate subcontractor and supplier bids for labor, material and equipment
  • Gather information, develop solutions, and adjust to necessary changes in work sequences
  • Review contractor and supplier invoices against actual performance
  • Evaluate the legitimacy of contractor and supplier change requests in terms of contractual requirements and validity of cost estimates
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to involved staff and contractors
  • Develop, update and maintain project schedules, progress, durations, compliance with financial, operational, and/or scheduling requirements and sequencing logic
