Main Responsibilities
  • Design industrial test equipment and machines for the transportation industry.
  • Act as lead engineer on custom engineered projects.
  • Design complete test systems, integrating multiple subsystems.
  • Check detailed designs and drawings of other projects within the engineering department.
  • Perform preliminary design and development drawings and specifications to support equipment and tooling modifications that improve safety and reliability.
  • Conceptualize and design test equipment/machines from customer specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, perform analytical modeling, and create or modify drawings, bills of materials, and product manuals.
  • Meet cost, manufacturing, and milestone targets for products designed and developed.
  • Work with engineers, technicians, and program managers to obtain and/or define system requirements and specifications.
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for assigned new and existing products and equipment.
  • Maintain proper documentation related to products and projects.
  • Correspond and interface with customers and vendors.
  • Ensure work is performed safely using available safety equipment.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in equipment or machine design.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design of complex assemblies and automation components.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works, or a similar 3‑D CAD system.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Demonstrated competence in the design of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Ability to prepare complex written reports and other documentation.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, speak, see (with corrective lenses), hear, and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and perform manual dexterity tasks.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically.
