Summary
Sets up and operates precision gear grinding machine with special indexing equipment to grind master and precision gears by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Sets up automatic dressing device to dress wheel to specified profile.
- Moves controls to set synchronized rotation speeds and feed rates.
- Positions and secures workpiece on mandrel between centers or in chuck, and turns hand wheels to position workpiece and wheel, verifying positions with thickness gauges, dial indicators, and micrometers.
- Turns valve handle and directs flow of coolant against wheel and workpiece. Moves controls to index workpiece and feed wheel to workpiece, adjusting depth of cut in part by sight and feel.
- Verifies dimensions of ground workpiece for conformance to specifications.
- Grinds metallic materials.
- Changes worn tools and cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
- Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
- Performs light machine maintenance (check oil and coolant levels).
- Quantity of Work – The quantity of work produced and the promptness with which it is completed.
- Quality of Work – The ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework.
- Judgement/Knowledge of Job – Knowledge of job, techniques, skills, equipment, procedures, materials, etc.
- Attendance/Dependability – Punctuality and attendance.
- Teamwork/Attitude – Willingness and cooperativeness with co‑workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism.
- Initiative/Independence – The degree to which an employee searches out new tasks and expands their ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision.
- Adherence to Policy – Follow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
- Adherence to Safety – Follow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE.
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical DemandsOccasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
