The Senior Accountant serves as a team leader in the finance department and ensures that all accounting transactions are posted accurately and timely through reconciliation of accounts. The right person for this role will have an excellent ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities, strong reconciliation and research skills, knowledge of GAAP accounting, and strong Excel skills. Must be willing to work overtime as required to meet various deadlines and must have excellent communication skills.
Although not a direct supervisory position, this person will work with other team members, helping them to understand GAAP requirements and assisting them in improving their processes.
- Support the Controller in all aspects of the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and post month-end journal entries to maintain accurate financial records.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts each month, investigating and resolving variances or unusual transactions.
- Assist with audit preparation, compiling and organizing information for external auditors and tax professionals.
- Prepare and reconcile sales and property tax returns, ensuring compliance with all filing requirements.
- Manage sales and property tax audits, serving as the primary point of contact with auditors.
- Research and interpret tax regulations, including obtaining tax licenses in complex or multi-state environments.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, offering guidance on GAAP compliance and process improvements.
- Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a Business degree with equivalent accounting experience required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with accounting software;
Microsoft Navision preferred. - Familiarity with sales tax software such as Avatax and Avalara is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Jet Reporting preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite required.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide and support team members.
- Comfortable asking questions, seeking clarification, and driving process improvements.

This role requires a high level of focus and attention to detail, with the ability to manage frequent interruptions while meeting strict deadlines. It is primarily a sedentary, office-based position
