Staff Engineer - Geotechnical/Civil – Terracon

Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. Perform and/or lead field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations; design and develop plans and specifications; observe and inspect construction; write, prepare, and review related reports; review drawings and construction to assure compliance; prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes; research and resolve design and construction problems;

assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports; apply sound engineering principles and communicate complex engineering issues to technical and non‑technical stakeholders across sectors such as public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial.

• Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre‑task planning; report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Demonstrate quality practices and acumen; provide consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
• Manage and execute small projects of minimal complexity as a proficient engineering professional.
• Assist in developing the scope of work for routine projects and preparing cost estimates, specifications, and other project related documents.
• Analyze data and perform engineering calculations and analysis for PE review.
• Conduct, coordinate, or supervise field investigations, laboratory testing, and evaluation of data.
• Develop plans, schedules, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
• Work closely with senior‑level project manager and Professional Engineer of Record to gain project management and engineering experience.
• Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for review by the Professional Engineer of Record.
• Prepare work scope, proposals, and reports and plan investigations for approval by senior level professionals.
• Supervise field staff including graduate/field engineers, engineering technicians, exploration teams, laboratory staff, and other support personnel.
• Interact with client and project team in developing scope of services and communicating project progress.
• Work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer and a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum 1‑3 years of experience.
• Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history.
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) required.

Minimum $76,500 – Maximum $118,500. Base salary may be adjusted based on location and individual qualifications.
