Position: Infection Preventionist/ Staff Development

Purpose

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the facility's infection prevention and control program, ensuring adherence to current best practices and regulatory requirements. The Staff Development role is responsible for work-related training and development programs of all staff to improve individual skills, orientate new employees to the facility and to comply with training requirements.

Essential Job Functions Duties And Responsibilities

Infection Preventionist

  • The Infection Preventionist will collect, analyze, and disseminate data and trends related to infections and antibiotic usage to nursing staff and healthcare practitioners
  • Provide consultation on infection risk assessment and prevention strategies
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update infection prevention and control policies, processes, and techniques in accordance with current best practices
  • Deliver education and training on infection prevention and control
  • Implement and audit evidence-based infection prevention and control practices to ensure that the facility follows current CMS, CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection prevention and control and are using appropriate transmission-based precautions when indicated.
  • Screen residents for vaccination status and infection control practices needed for safe delivery of care
  • Track, analyze and report on infections and antibiotic usage to management and the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee. Provide recommendations for any improvement areas
  • Stay informed about evolving infection prevention and control guidelines and regulations to ensure the facility's protocols remain up-to-date and effective in preventing and controlling infections
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary or as may be directed
  • Report all reportable diseases to the county and state health departments
  • Provide direct nursing care, as necessary
Staff Development
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of employees across various departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry standards
  • Facilitate engaging workshops and seminars for staff development, utilizing interactive techniques and modem educational tools to maximize participant learning and retention
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training and development programs, using feedback surveys, assessments, and performance data to make informed adjustments and improvements
  • Collaborate with department heads and management to identify specific training needs and gaps within teams, developing tailored solutions to address these areas
  • Oversee the administration of the learning management system (i.e.: Educare), ensure courses are up-to-date, accessible, and efficiently organized for employee use. Monitor monthly education compliance and partner with staff to ensure compliance
  • Partner with the DON on monthly training topics for clinical team on all three shifts
  • Develop, lead, and set up education fairs with the leadership team annually
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the organization, initiating mentorship programs and peer learning opportunities to foster a supportive and growth-oriented work environment
  • Provide staff specific individual training for any performance needs
  • Establish and maintain a preceptor training program
  • Participate in the Mission Farm quality assurance program and projects
  • Rotates weekly on-call with the nursing leadership team
  • This position will be required to work beyond normal work hours, additional shifts, weekends, and holidays when necessary. This position is subject to callback during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
