Our client, a leading Property Services company based in Plymouth, is looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join their long‑standing painting team. This role requires a driven, people‑focused and entrepreneurial professional to work within their commercial and operational team, which specialises in painting, decorating and planned refurbishment works across the South West.
Salary: £60,630 plus a car allowance (£6,700), a fuel card, profit share (last year 9.33%), private health, pension, life insurance and other benefits.
The Quantity Surveyor roleAs a Quantity Surveyor in Plymouth, you will actively tender, estimate and measure onsite. You will work across a variety of projects, including established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious housing clients in the public and residential sectors, and other property services covering defence, commercial and education sectors.
Responsibilities- Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks and mitigation.
- Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
- Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
- Build strong client, supplier and subcontractor relationships, to discuss variations and progress and to seek mutually commercial and viable solutions.
- Complete and analyse weekly site reporting, ensuring it includes adequate cost information (labour rates, performance expectations, budgets, value, progress, quality and safety).
- Proven experience in a surveying role, with the commercial ownership of projects and contracts from tender and estimation stages through to final account.
- Experience managing projects with a total value of up to £2 million annually.
- Experience with painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing or civil/new‑build projects preferred, but not essential.
- Experience dealing and working with direct labour teams, timesheets and subcontractors.
- Schedule of Rates (SORs) experience.
- An entrepreneurial, analytical and accurate approach, with a keen eye for business opportunities and negotiation.
