Search is recruiting a Health and Safety Advisor to join a major, long–term infrastructure programme in Plymouth.

This is an opportunity to work on a large–scale and technically complex project incorporating construction, civil engineering, utilities and the upgrade of existing infrastructure.

We're particularly interested in Health and Safety Advisors who enjoy being close to operational delivery, working alongside construction teams and contractors, and influencing how work is carried out safely.

What you will be doing

As Health and Safety Advisor, you'll work closely with project leadership, operational teams and the supply chain to support the safe delivery of construction and infrastructure works.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing practical Health and Safety advice to project and operational teams.
  • Working closely with contractors and the supply chain to improve SHE performance.
  • Coaching and influencing teams to ensure Health and Safety requirements are understood and implemented.
  • Conducting site inspections, assurance activities and compliance checks.
  • Supporting the investigation of accidents, incidents and other unplanned events.
  • Identifying corrective actions and ensuring lessons learned are communicated across the project.
  • Supporting the assessment and ongoing management of contractors.
  • Reviewing Health and Safety performance and helping develop improvement plans.
  • Supporting and delivering relevant SHE training.
  • Working with project leadership to identify emerging risks and implement practical solutions.
  • Supporting compliance with SHE management systems and relevant legislation.

What you will need We're interested in speaking with Health and Safety professionals from a range of construction and operational backgrounds.

You will ideally have:
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Around 3+ years of practical Health and Safety experience, with more experienced Advisors equally encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing or another complex operational environment.
  • Practical experience of site inspections, risk management, incident investigation and contractor engagement.
  • Confidence working directly with operational teams and challenging unsafe practices where required.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • A practical approach to Health and Safety and the ability to build effective relationships with people at all levels.

Experience on major infrastructure or complex construction projects would be advantageous, but is not essential.

The ability to communicate, influence and work effectively with operational teams is more important than having worked within one particular sector.
