Restorative Dentistry Consultant

Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic restorative consultant to join our friendly team at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. This newly established post reflects our commitment to expanding specialist dental services across Devon, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care in restorative dentistry. The successful applicant will be part of a growing, established team of consultants providing comprehensive secondary and tertiary care to the population of Plymouth, South Devon and East Cornwall.

• The successful candidate will deliver consultant-led outpatient and inpatient services, with a focus on complex restorative care.
• You will work closely with colleagues across specialties—particularly Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics—to provide integrated multidisciplinary treatment planning and care.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Provide advice to dental and medical practitioners working in primary care services.
• Provide advice to hospital clinicians, including consultants in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and a range of medical specialties.
• Liaise with GDPs and specialist practitioners working within the primary care sector and provide advice if requested.
• Provide a high-quality treatment service for patients with HNC, developmental abnormalities and severe trauma.
• Provide a high-quality treatment service for the above priority groups requiring multidisciplinary care.

• Essential:
  Entry on or eligible to enter within 6 months to the GDC specialist list in Restorative Dentistry.
• Essential:
  Evidence of successful completion of an SAC-approved StR training programme in Restorative Dentistry (or equivalent).
• Desirable:
  Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (or equivalent).
