Job Summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant General Radiologist with subspecialty interest in Radionuclide Imaging or a Consultant in Nuclear Medicine and Radiology (dual trained) to join the existing team including a NM physician and Consultant Radionuclide Radiologist to provide specialist diagnostic NM and general radiology services.
Responsibilities- Share responsibility for a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine service with the existing NM Consultant Radiologist and Physician.
- Supervise scans in the NM department to maintain quality, and report all imaging and non‑imaging examinations.
- Provide PET CT reporting using both FDG and non‑FDG tracers (e.g., PSMA, Choline, Amyloid), with accommodation for subspecialty interests.
- Participate in 7‑day working patterns and share on‑call commitments equally with existing consultants.
- Support the department’s audit and clinical governance programmes.
- Assist with research activities and develop a PET CT research portfolio.
- Teach clinical and practical skills for the Peninsula Medical School and Peninsula Radiology Training Program.
- Collaborate with the Trust Lead for R & D on research projects and audit initiatives.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Full GMC registration.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (or equivalent).
- Completion of CCT in radiology and entry on the Specialist Register in radiology (or expected within 6 months of interview).
- At least 12 months training in radionuclide imaging.
- Broad skills in general and cross‑sectional imaging, acute imaging services and expert clinical opinion on general radiology studies.
- Experience in adult and paediatric NM imaging and reporting FDG PET CT.
- Ability to supervise radiology STRs across a broad range of NM and general radiological imaging.
- Ability to participate in general radiology on‑call rota.
- Compliance with Disclosure and Barring Service check (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975).
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- MD, PhD or other postgraduate degree.
- PGDip/MSc in Nuclear Medicine.
- Entry on Specialist Register in Nuclear Medicine.
- Experience in non‑FDG PET CT and holding/eligible for an ARSAC licence for non‑FDG PET tracers.
- Further subspecialist/fellowship training in diagnostic NM and PET CT.
- Experience delivering NM therapies (e.g., Radium, Thyroid, DOTATATE, PSMA, SIRT).
- Ability to report trial imaging to RECIST 1.1.
- Evidence of completed audit projects, clinical research, publications in peer‑reviewed journals, grant applications.
- Ability to lead research teams and undertake basic science research.
Teaching, Management and Skills
- Ability to teach clinical and practical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, honesty and reliability.
- Strong IT skills and a caring attitude towards patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
- Ability to advise on efficient service running and participate in departmental, directorate and trust management.
- Availability to work required hours, shifts, on‑call and move between sites if required.
