Skull Fellowship; StR in Neurosurgery

We are inviting applications for the Anterior and Lateral Skull Base Fellowship (Peri/Post-CCT) at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, within the Department of Neurosurgery.

This is a 24-month fixed-term Fellowship, commencing by mutual agreement, and is designed for senior neurosurgical trainees approaching CCT or surgeons who have recently achieved CCT. The Fellowship is Trust funded and provides an advanced, structured educational experience in skull base and pituitary surgery beyond the scope of standard CCT training. The fellowship is approved by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS Senior Clinical Fellowship Scheme).

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual with a clear commitment to skull base neurosurgery who can progress towards independent consultant-level practice in this complex and demanding subspecialty.

The Plymouth Skull Base Fellowship delivers high-volume, consultant-supervised subspecialist training in anterior and lateral skull base pathology, with particular emphasis on both endoscopic and open approaches.

The Fellow will work within the skull base practice of Mr Aditaya Kumar and Mr Samiul Muquit, Consultant Neurosurgeons, and will function in a supervisory capacity with the core neurosurgical trainee rota to ensure protected subspecialist exposure without detracting from pre-CCT training.

The Fellowship is specifically designed to bridge the gap between CCT-level competence and independent consultant practice, with graduated autonomy and formal assessment using ISCP and GMC Generic Professional Capabilities frameworks.
