Band 3 - starting salary £16,544 with annual, incremental progression up to £17,772 (FTE £25,733 - £27,644)
30 hours per week, 36 weeks per year (Term‑time only) - Permanent
Working Location - Palace Court

Arts University Plymouth is seeking to appoint a Specialist Student Support worker in our Pre‑Degree campus, where they will be required to provide assistance to students with disabilities and/or special educational needs. Our Pre‑Degree campus is a fast paced environment where we deliver Arts courses across a variety of disciplines.

The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the needs of students with a variety of disabilities, including Autism, ADHD and Social, Emotional and Mental Health. We will also require you to build strong, trusting relationships with our students, to encourage their success and achievement.

You will have a flexible, positive and can do approach, along with effective communication and organisation skills — an ability to be emotionally resilient is a major part of this role. It is expected that this role will work 5 days per week, starting at 9am and finishing re may be some flexibility and part‑time hours will be considered, however, the days will need to include Fridays.

The role will start from the 27th April 2026.

  • Previous experience of supporting students with SEN needs.
  • Demonstrated good communication and organisational skills.
  • Flexibility, working across all the Pre‑Degree courses supporting students with SEN needs.
  • Good IT and administration skills.

The Role
  • Provide support across the Pre‑Degree courses for students with SEN needs, including one‑to‑one/small group support in accordance with individual student needs and course criteria.
  • Support students to develop strategies & coping mechanisms to manage their difficulties and overcome their barriers to learning.
  • Work with academic teams to ensure that support provided is appropriate & in line with curriculum requirements.
