Salary: £26,824 – £29,540 per annum (NJC Grade D points 08‑14, pro‑rated £23,132 – £25,474).

We are looking for an Assistant Head of Year to join our staff team at Stoke Damerel Community College and Scott Medical and Healthcare College Campus. The role provides pastoral and welfare support and guidance for all students within the Key Stage 3/4 year groups and works in partnership with the Head of Year to maximise student achievements and attainment across the college.
Main responsibilities:
- Ensure students feel safe in school and follow safeguarding policies and processes.
- Provide welfare support to young people and link with parents/carers as needed.
- Work alongside the safeguarding team to keep children safe.
- Liaise with parents/carers, staff, students and other stakeholders in a timely and professional manner in relation to all aspects of students’ pastoral care.
- Maintain a visible presence around school during breaks, lunchtimes and tutor groups to reinforce expectations and standards.
- Work with the Pastoral Leader to ensure that the tutor time reading programme and curriculum collapse are delivered to a high standard consistently by the tutor team.
- Support students to be ready to learn and ensure they are equipped appropriately for learning, including pencil cases, reading books and homework.
- Actively enforce the uniform policy with the Pastoral Leader and take daily firm and consistent action to ensure students wear appropriate uniform at all times.
- Support year assemblies as relevant and develop a year group ethos with the Pastoral Leader.
- Actively supervise students whilst on duty during the school day.
- Deputise for the Head of Year in their absence.
You will need:
- Strong academic record, including English and Maths at Grade C/4/5 or equivalent.
- Experience of working with and supervising students, including knowledge of behavioural and learning difficulties.
- Ability to initiate, develop and maintain good working relationships with teachers, students, parents, staff and agencies.
- Understanding of relevant policies, codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of strategies to establish a purposeful learning environment and promote good behaviour.
- Experience of working with support agencies.
