About the role

Hours:

8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday

Pay Rate: £88 – £98 per day (depending on experience)

Experience:

Five Education is working with a number of high-quality schools across Somerset to recruit Classroom Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Whether you’re at the start of your career or looking to apply your skills in a new setting, this could be the perfect opportunity to grow into a specialist role. Some schools are accessible via public transport, while others may require access to a car.

Responsibilities
  • Help pupils access the curriculum and stay engaged in lessons
  • Support children with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Work one-to-one or in small groups, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo
  • Reinforce individual education plans (IEPs) and bespoke learning targets
  • Assist pupils in their social and emotional development
  • Encourage independence and confidence in learning and behaviour
Desired qualities and experience
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm approach
  • A high level of initiative and reliability
  • Resilience in managing challenging behaviour or emotional needs
  • A desire to learn and grow within an education setting

Previous experience is not required, but we welcome applicants from:

  • Teaching Assistants or youth workers
  • Healthcare or support roles
  • Security or public service roles
  • Experience supporting vulnerable people in any capacity

Your daily rate of pay would be £89.66 plus potential to earn more based on your level of experience, including holiday pay.

DBS:
If you do not have a non-voluntary enhanced DBS on the update service, we will process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work, provided the DBS is added to the update service.

Vetting:
Successful applicants will undergo reference checks, TRA checks, and a DBS; there will also be a face-to-face interview.
