The Governors and Leadership Team of St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, Plymouth, are seeking to appoint a passionate, nurturing and dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join our specialist provision, The Hub.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed practitioner to become part of our growing inclusive provision and make a difference to the lives of children with complex additional Communication and interaction needs .Our approach is child-centred, relational and trauma-informed. We recognise that communication is at the heart of learning, relationships, emotional regulation and independence therefore, The Hub is a communication-focused specialist provision.

This may include supporting pupils who use visual supports, symbols, objects of reference, gestures, signing, makaton or other communication approaches.

The Hub provides a highly nurturing and structured environment for pupils with complex trauma-informed, with a strong focus on developing pupils' communication, emotional regulation, independence, social skills and engagement alongside their academic progress.

We are looking for someone who understands that every child can achieve when the right support, relationships and opportunities are in place. The successful candidate will work closely with the Hub teacher, wider school staff, families and external professionals to provide high-quality, individualised support for our pupils.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Is nurturing, patient, calm and able to build trusting and positive relationships with pupils.
  • Has a genuine commitment to helping children develop their communication, emotional regulation, independence and confidence.
  • Can recognise and respond sensitively to individual children's needs, including when children are dysregulated or finding school challenging.
  • Is able to adapt learning, communication and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Is resilient, reflective and willing to learn and develop their practice.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to the wider school.
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Is able to follow individual plans, strategies and professional advice.n
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child.
  • Is supportive of the Catholic ethos and values of our school.
