Sub Agent – Volker Wessels UK

Volker Stevin is an industry‑leading civil engineering business, part of the Volker Wessels UK Group with expertise across maritime, flood risk management, defence, energy, water and regeneration. We collaborate with the group’s business units to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary services.

This position requires security clearance; you must be a UK National.

Overview

Responsible for the delivery of the construction phase of an assigned site or a section of the site on a large scheme. Provide instruction and direction to ensure successful delivery of construction works assigned by the Agent or Project Manager.

Accountable For

• SHEQ performance of the site.
• Identification of change / risk / opportunity and feedback to Agent or PM for resolution.
• Production, review and monitoring of RAMS / ITPs to ensure compliance with business standards, policies and procedures.
• Accurate as‑built documentation.
• Production & issue of Weekly Progress Programmes and Reports.

Construction Responsibilities

• Deliver the works safely, with overall responsibility for management of the site, ensuring safe systems of work and method statements are produced, followed and reviewed.
• Be familiar with and observe all relevant statutory provisions applicable to construction and related industries.
• Implement the company’s procedures for managing and dealing with sub‑contractors.
• Ensure the Engineering team understands the Contract type, Works Information and Specification.
• Provide an overall Site Management Plan (SMP) and Environmental Control Plan (ECP) for each site, assessing risks and ensuring safe systems of work and method statements are produced, followed and reviewed.
• Ensure all temporary works are complied with.
• Ensure TWC and TWS are in place.
• Ensure lifting operations are managed by the appointed AP and Lift Supervisor are in place.
• Ensure the Service Co‑ordinator is in place.
• Ensure that all excavation works are recorded by site supervision.
• Ensure activity and/or substance‑specific assessments under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations are made and communicated to those at risk.
• Manage supply chain during construction, supported by Site Agent/PM and commercial team:
  • Pre‑start Meetings
  • Design Kick‑Off Meetings (where supplier design is involved)
  • Progress Review/Co‑ordination Meetings
  • Contribution to 360° performance review and feedback process
  • Support subcontract management processes – Notice to Commence, programme review & acceptance, EWN’s, CE’s, Contractor’s Instructions

About You

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
• At least 6+ years of experience working on civil engineering projects.
• Working towards Chartered Professional Certification.
• SMSTS certificate.
• First Aid certificate.
• CSCS card.
