Design Engineer – Solid Works
Location:
Plymouth
Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 + development opportunities
Our client is a well-established and highly regarded manufacturer of precision-engineered components produced from both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Their high-tolerance, safety-critical products are used across a range of demanding and highly regulated sectors including Marine, Nuclear, Renewable Energy and Oil & Gas.
Operating from a modern, clean, well-organised and safety-focused facility in Plymouth, the company benefits from a strong and secure order book. Due to continued growth, they are seeking motivated and capable Design Engineers to join their established engineering team.
Role Overview
The Design Engineer will support the design and development of precision engineered products and assemblies, ensuring designs are accurate, manufacturable and compliant with customer and regulatory requirements. This role requires close collaboration with production, customers and suppliers to deliver technically robust and commercially viable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Produce 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using Solid Works.
Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials.
Process and manage engineering change requests.
Ensure correct material selection and specification for each application.
Apply appropriate tolerancing to ensure correct fit and function of complex assemblies.
Review technical aspects of contracts prior to release to production.
Control design documentation through authorised systems (PMD Vault).
Liaise with customers and suppliers to confirm design and technical specifications.
Work closely with the shop floor to support manufacture and resolve design issues.
Support testing and validation to ensure assemblies meet required specifications.
Contribute to continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes.
Desirable Experience
Understanding of CAM software.
FMEA knowledge or experience.
Experience with in regulated or safety-critical manufacturing environments.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should be of graduate calibre in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or be a time-served engineer with relevant design experience. Candidates must have practical experience of Solid Works gained within a manufacturing environment and a sound understanding of design for manufacture.
