Our Water team is on the lookout for a passionate Senior Flood Modeller to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line. This role offers the chance to help deliver high‑profile, influential projects across the UK and beyond, while working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and check hydraulic models using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC‑RAS and ICM to support flood alleviation scheme designs, flood risk assessments, and reservoir flood studies.
  • Develop water quality models (physico‑chemical, biological, bacterial or chemical) with MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT and/or ICM.
  • Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, assessing risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders, from one‑off projects to multi‑million‑pound framework contracts.
  • Mentor junior staff to support their professional development.
  • Build relationships with clients and cross‑disciplinary technical teams.
  • Stay current with legislative and guideline developments that may impact our services.
  • Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver outputs within agreed programme and budget.
  • Collaborate with clients and engineering specialists to deliver a range of fluvial, coastal, surface‑water or drainage flood risk management projects.
Qualifications
  • Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling with Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, and/or TUFLOW.
  • Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessments.
  • Basic understanding of physico‑chemical water quality and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CIWEM or similar professional qualification, or in the process of obtaining one.
  • Practical knowledge of scripting programmes such as Python, Anaconda or Ruby is advantageous.
  • Self‑motivated, capable of working autonomously, and committed to a dynamic deadline‑driven team environment.
