Project Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
Reporting to the Project Engineering Leader (as designated), the Project Engineer’s primary function is to implement cost reduction and continuous process improvement activities, and to maximize capacity constraint programs for future business growth. The role requires effective planning, tracking, and management of multi-disciplined teams and external vendors to deliver projects within the time frame identified by the annual budget process.
Main Responsibilities- Prepare accurate project schedules and capital appropriation requests for all projects.
- Liaise with quality, regulatory, facilities, production and marketing departments to obtain input and support, ensuring projects are successfully initiated and validated within time and budget.
- Plan, design and specify improvements to existing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety and efficiency. Innovate, design and specify new processes to meet manufacturing requirements, manage vendor selection, order placement and track building progress through to factory acceptance trials.
- Prepare plant layout in response to changing manufacturing needs for both present and future requirements.
- Prepare/manufacture and manage manufacturing and validation document amendments related to process change and new equipment introduction.
- Coordinate the failure mode effect analysis process to carry out risk analysis of process changes. Provide operational and technical training as necessary.
- Utilize Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC) and carry out statistical data analysis to scope and manage improvement activities.
- Liaise with other BD Plants to share process knowledge that may provide cost reductions and efficiency improvements. Keep abreast of latest technology.
- Ensure projects are compliant with Health and Safety legislation, environmental legislation, medical device industry legislation in Europe and the USA, and division/plant procedures.
- Coach and give direction to engineering associates regarding specific tasks and projects.
- Carry out other duties as deemed appropriate by the Engineering Leader.
- A qualification in an engineering discipline (HND or Degree preferred), with a minimum of HNC or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a high-performing high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally within medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or a similarly regulated industry.
- A track record of successfully contributing to or leading projects, with strong project management capability.
- Comfortable working with a range of PC-based systems and tools to support engineering and operational activities.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to apply technical knowledge to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
