Graduate Structural Engineer - Buildings - 2027
Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Structural Engineer in our Plymouth or Exeter office, where you will be part of a market-leading Buildings discipline. As a Graduate Engineer, you'll be part of a close-knit team of 15 civil and structural engineers, working alongside colleagues with a diverse range of skills and experience who will support your development and career growth.
We work closely with our MEP, geotechnical and architectural colleagues on building projects across the South West and nationally, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of disciplines and develop a holistic understanding of project delivery. Our team works across a wide range of building sectors, with specialist expertise in education, defence, residential, healthcare, and heritage projects.

The Role
As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you'll support our Structural Engineering team in the design and delivery of building projects. Your responsibilities will include undertaking structural analysis and design calculations, preparing specifications and sketches/drawings, carrying out structural inspections, and attending project meetings. You will work closely with experienced engineers to develop practical, safe, and sustainable design solutions across a range of sectors.
You'll be working on the following:
- Structural analysis and design calculations, to solve structural engineering problems.
- Parametric design to support the design of low-embodied carbon structures.
- Structural engineering specifications.
- Structural engineering inspections and investigations, to help restore buildings and keep them from demolition.
- Assisting with the production of 3D Revit models and structural engineering drawings.
- Taking part in project and team meetings, to collaborate with other designers, develop your communication skills, and be a part of all project matters.
We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The applicable professional qualification for this role is IEng or CEng status with either the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institution of Structural Engineers.

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in BEng Civil or Structural Engineering, a knowledge of Microsoft 365 / Office AutoCAD and familiarity with structural engineering analysis and design software would be beneficial, and a keen interest in working in the Buildings sector, you’ll be:
