What you’ll be doingWe are looking for a Relationship Director to support a Mid Markets portfolio of clients and prospects within Devon and Cornwall. The role involves understanding and providing solutions to clients’ bespoke financial requirements across lending, deposits, and other products. The portfolio focuses on the following sectors:
Business and Professional Services, Manufacturing, Wholesale and Consumer, Technology, Media and Telecoms, Healthcare

- Proactively originate new-to-bank opportunities with a focus on debt transactions, leveraging direct outreach and introducer networks.
- Build and maintain deep relationships with key business introducers (private equity, debt advisers, accountants, lawyers) to sustain a pipeline.
- Understand client strategies and funding requirements to structure compelling, competitive debt solutions.
- Drive balance‑sheet growth through disciplined capital deployment, increasing share of wallet with new and existing clients.
- Lead negotiations on pricing, terms and structure to deliver strong client outcomes aligned with risk appetite and return objectives.
- Handle high‑profile client relationships, adding customer value at every interaction and becoming a trusted advisor.
- Manage the risk side of the portfolio, supporting clients with ESG strategies and their Net Zero journey.
- Support the development of others in the team and invest in your own personal development.
- 5+ years of proven experience in a similar role within corporate banking, corporate finance or private equity.
- Strong communication skills and experience building, creating and maintaining relationships with clients and influential external partners.
- Proven credit experience – evaluating propositions and making confident commercial recommendations to the Credit team.
- Strong financial and numerical skills.
- Detailed understanding of legal documentation and the ability to negotiate legal and commercial terms.
- Understanding and appreciation of the different types of risk in a lending environment and how to minimise such risk.
