Job Overview

We are searching for a Lead Pharmacy Technician to join our aseptic services team. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic and looking for a leadership role, we want to hear from you! You will deputise for the Aseptic Services Manager and work under the guidance of the Accountable Pharmacist, becoming a key member of the aseptic services leadership team. Your responsibilities will include day‑to‑day leadership in the clean rooms, overseeing operational delivery of preparation activities, ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance processes for Aseptic Preparation Services, and checking and releasing aseptically prepared products.

This is a unique opportunity as we are a designated “pathfinder” site, with plans to move to a purpose‑built off‑site aseptic facility. You will be directly involved in commissioning the new unit, designing production processes and recruiting and training the team. Further study, for example PTQA, is encouraged and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the senior aseptic services team delivering aseptic services under section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968 and Good Manufacturing Practice.
  • Report to the Aseptic Services Manager and the Accountable Pharmacist/Deputy, delivering the pharmacy aseptic service to all care areas requiring assistance.
  • Act as deputy for the manager in operational delivery of the Aseptic Services Unit, ensuring efficient supply of in‑house and outsourced aseptically prepared medicines.
  • Assist the manager and pharmacist in leadership and management of all aspects of aseptic services, ensuring compliance with QA of Aseptic Preparation Services.
  • Provide and develop pharmaceutical care for patients served by the pharmacy aseptic service.
  • Act as team leader in the absence of senior colleagues, deputising for the manager.
Person Specification
  • Previous demonstrable experience as a pharmacy technician in aseptic preparation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of current legislation relating to aseptic preparation of injectable medicines, GMP guidance and QA of aseptic preparation services.
  • Good understanding of COSHH regulations and their relation to aseptic preparation.
  • Demonstrable experience of performance management and staff leadership.
  • Current evidence of CPD.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria
  • Proven knowledge of pharmaceutical service procedures via NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science, or equivalent postgraduate diploma.
