Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor

To support the Occupational Therapists in delivering a quality Occupational Therapy service to the patients referred from within Mount Gould Hospital.

To perform specific therapeutic (clinical and non-clinical) assessment, treatment and discharge of an identified caseload of patients within the Occupational Therapy Team as part of the MDT on Skylark wards, Local Care Centre, Mount Gould Hospital.

The clinical caseload will be allocated and indirectly supervised by registered Health and Care Professions Council registered therapists within the area. Caseload includes visiting in-patients' homes and other community settings.

To support the Team Leader in running of the Equipment loan system for the Occupational Therapy Department, Mount Gould Hospital.

To provide clerical/administration support to the Occupational Therapists and Therapy Department.

To independently treat patients following protocols or delegated tasks.

To be part of the 8am to 6pm, 7-day working rota, which includes weekends and bank holidays

Main duties of the job

Post holder will be required to deliver and fit OT equipment and carry out assessment at patient's home for any specialities within Mount Gould Hospital.

Post holder will not receive regular supervision, but take responsibility for his/her own work, and within the limitations of his/her training, experience and abilities.

Post holder also support the Team Leader in running the Equipment loan/return system .

To work independently, but under the direction of the HCPC registered Therapists to perform specific tasks for an individual or group of patients, as part of their assessment, rehabilitation and therapeutic care programmes .

To work within protocols and competencies specific to this post. To act as first contact in specific situations.

Treatment activities might include following exercise and mobility programmes; and educating & advising patients and their families about their situation and options for the future.

Job responsibilities

1. Explain to patients, relatives and those with whom they come into contact the role of the Occupational Therapist and components of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme.

2. Obtain informed consent from the patient, and work within the current legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent, prior to commencing any treatment.

3. Through conversation with the patient, patients relatives / next of kin obtain information regarding their social circumstances, difficulties encountered with aspects of Activities of Daily Living and their work & leisure & make follow up phone calls, as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

4. Implement individual/group treatment sessions, as instructed by the Occupational Therapist - this will include washing, dressing, kitchen or bathing assessment and remedial therapy work, utilizing interpersonal skills and demonstrating empathy, in order to achieve the goal.

5. Carry out kitchen assessment at the patients home as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

6. Independently manage the Occupational Therapy intervention for specific patients following an agreed protocol.
