HR Manager – Professional Services (Legal)
An opportunity to lead the people agenda for a growing professional services firm across two South West offices. This will suit a hands‑on HR Manager who enjoys building culture, structure and process in a business with ambitious growth plans.
The roleLead the HR function, partnering with the Managing Partner and Heads of Department across a multi‑site professional services firm. Own people strategy, policies and initiatives that support commercial goals and a modern, values‑led culture. Plymouth‑based with some homeworking and occasional travel to a second South West office.
Key responsibilities- Develop and implement HR strategy, policies and initiatives aligned to firm objectives.
- Manage day‑to‑day HR operations, ensuring compliant, efficient processes and up‑to‑date policies.
- Lead employee relations, advising managers on complex issues and managing disciplinary, capability and grievance cases.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding and probation for fee‑earning and business services roles, including trainees.
- Drive performance development, training needs analysis and career development processes.
- Coordinate benefits administration and work with Finance/Payroll on pay and pension changes.
- Run staff surveys and translate insights into actions to improve engagement, wellbeing and culture.
- Significant experience in a senior HR generalist/manager role, ideally in professional services or a partnership.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice, applied pragmatically.
- Track record in designing and delivering HR strategies, policies, and people projects that drive measurable impact.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with high professional and ethical standards.
Salary c £50,000 FTE. Part‑time (4 days) with the option to increase to 5 days per week. Plymouth‑based role in a collaborative, values‑led professional services environment.
