An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist to work within the Lung Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. The post will work alongside the current CNS team, to provide specialist CNS support to lung cancer patients across the whole Cancer pathway from diagnosis.

The post holder will manage and lead a team of CNS.

Please note that applications from temporary workers who have been engaged with the Trust for a minimum of 3 months are welcome.

Available as a secondment opportunity (with current line manager's agreement). May have opportunity to become permanent at the end of the secondment.

• To provide a specialist nursing service for patients undergoing care and treatment within Oncology for lung cancers.
• Undertake nurse-led clinics including non-medical prescribing if appropriate.
• To act as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train.
• Undertake audit and evaluation and develop policies and procedures as required.
• To work as an integrated member of the wider cancer nurse specialist team. Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within speciality and sphere of practice.
• Take a lead role facilitating the planning and skills within speciality and sphere of practice.
• Work with adults who have known lung malignancy.
• Demonstrates significant advanced knowledge and skills within speciality and sphere of practice.
• Take a lead role facilitating the planning delivery and evaluation of care pathways for gist patients.
• Lead and provide training and education across the organisation in relevant areas of practice.

• Line manages team members where appropriate including health roster, leave sickness and appraisals. Lead for service development to improve patient experience in specialist area. Lead for education and training in specialist area.
• Works autonomously to manage his/her own caseload of patients whilst working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
• To formulate individualized patient treatment care programmes in conjunction with the medical team.
• Each patient is placed in the correct treatment protocol.
• To manage and run nurse-led independent clinics as appropriate and be a NMP to use as needed and appropriate within the speciality.
• Investigations and treatment are organized as needed.
• Communications highly sensitive and emotive condition related information to patients, relatives.
  
  E.g. cancer diagnosis, terminal illness bereavement.
• Utilises advanced skills of assessment, interprets complex needs and implements specialist nursing care for patients within the site‑specific cancer group and their carers.
• To provide support for distressed patients/carers and bereaved relatives and identify individuals at risk and refer to appropriate agencies.
• Participate in case conferences in relation to future management or discharge arrangements for patients
