Do you want to make a difference and be at the forefront of new treatments and technology within Oncology/Haematology research? Are you looking for a new and different career pathway while still maintaining your clinical skills and patient care in Oncology/Haematology? We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Specialist Research Nurse to join our Research and Innovation Department. The post holder may work across a diverse range of cancer types including lung, breast, colorectal, gynaecological and brain, supporting high quality commercial and NIHR portfolio studies and contributing to all aspects of trial delivery across the Trust.

As a Specialist Research Nurse you will deliver the portfolio, providing high quality care from recruitment through to follow-up, closeout and archive. You will work predominantly within the Oncology/Haematology research team but may also support urgent public health and Trust‑wide studies, collaborating closely with the Research nursing team, Principal Investigators and support staff to ensure compliance with Trust policy, Good Clinical Practice, Human Tissue Act and trial‑specific protocols.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust share a vision for excellence in care, delivering a single corporate service across both organisations. The successful candidate may be based at either site, with business travel between sites as required. Multi‑site leadership responsibilities will be agreed locally.

We require a registered nurse with sound Oncology/Haematology and/or chemotherapy experience, excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and keen attention to detail. Experience delivering research trials is advantageous but robust training will be provided for those who have none. Leadership skills are essential to support both team and portfolio development, and the role may include line management responsibilities. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, proactive in recruiting patients to meet NIHR targets, and may occasionally support other areas to achieve these targets.

The post holder will be supported by the Oncology/Haematology research team, senior research nurses, clinicians and Principal Investigators, and will have opportunities to further develop knowledge and skills in chemotherapy administration and Oncology/Haematology nursing, supported by clinical supervision and coaching.

• Current RN Adult / RGN registration with NMC.
• Degree in a relevant field.
• Evidence of recent CPD.
• Clinical post registration experience.

• Relevant experience in Management / Leadership Course training.
• Postgraduate level qualification in research, healthcare related subject or equivalent.
• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training for Research.
• Previous experience of project management and/or coordinating clinical trials.
• Previous experience of leadership and management.
• Evidence of systems development and change management.

• Effective leadership, motivation and team building skills.
• Articulate and knowledgeable in current healthcare and clinical trials issues.
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
