Job Description

Idaho State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science. The appointment will begin in the Fall 2026 semester and is renewable for up to three years. The department is seeking a candidate with the ability to contribute broadly to its undergraduate and three graduate programs (DA, MA, and MPA), with a specific emphasis on candidates with expertise in American Politics, covering institutions and behaviors.

The successful candidate is expected to cover the department's needs to teach the Presidency, the Legislative Process, Political Parties and Groups, and Voting and Public Opinion courses spread over two semesters on a 3‑3 teaching load.

This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

The position carries a 3‑3 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses. The faculty will also have service and research obligations, which will comprise 40 percent of the workload. The candidate may be asked to teach MA/MPA/DA courses related to their expertise that are broadcast via distance learning.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctorate in Political Science or other related fields before the start of classes (August 2026). ABDs will be considered.
  • Candidates with expertise in American Politics, covering institutions and behaviors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctorate in Political Science is preferred.
  • The ability to teach Public Administration, Quantitative Methodology, and/or Political Theory courses.
Additional Information

You must submit your CV/resume, cover letter, and list of three (3) professional references, including current contact information. This position will remain open until it is filled; however, priority consideration will be given to applications received on or before December 31, 2025. Salary will be between $60,000 and $65,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision;
