Project Engineer
Location:
Pocatello,
Salary: $55,000–$70,000 annually.
Job Overview:
The Project Engineer provides design, project management, floodplain management, and support services for city infrastructure and capital improvement projects. As a licensed Professional Engineer, responsibilities include designing parking lots, lift and pump stations, water and sewer infrastructure, storm water projects, roads, intersections, bridges, and structures, as well as plan approval, feasibility studies, and oversight of contracted engineering firms.
- Design and support projects for city infrastructure and capital improvement initiatives.
- Create design drawings, elevations, diagrams, and specifications.
- Write bid documents, review submissions, oversee bidding, and monitor construction for compliance with specifications.
- Ensure floodplain design complies with city ordinances, state and national standards.
- Coordinate large, complex projects with outside engineering firms and with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Answer inquiries and provide information to the public, other departments, and private engineers, developers, and architects.
- Prepare and present reports and information to the public.
- Write and administer grants, ensuring federally funded projects follow guidelines.
- Direct work of engineering technicians, surveyors, and administrative personnel; assist in training interns.
- Perform all duties in accordance with city policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- State of Idaho licensed Professional Engineer in good standing.
- Five years of experience, including two years as a project manager.
- Idaho driver’s license.
- Engineering design principles and practices for civil and capital improvement projects.
- Knowledge of federal, state, city, and other statutes, codes and regulations governing municipal and civil engineering, bidding, construction and floodplain management.
- Project cost estimation and accounting methods.
- Land survey techniques, construction contract administration, GIS and other mapping systems.
- Customer service, data collection, OSHA regulations, and safe work practices.
- Computer skills: standard office equipment, personal computer, and industry software.
The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and work in office and field environments, including construction sites. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 30 pounds with assistance, operate a vehicle, and have adequate visual and hearing acuity.
