Qualifications- Possess an Idaho P.O.S.T. certification or be Idaho P.O.S.T. certifiable.
- Have at least two (2) years of equivalent law enforcement experience.
If the applicant does not meet these minimum qualifications, they should fill out the Police Entry Level Exam Notification Form to be notified of the next entry-level exam.
Job DescriptionA Police Officer enforces state and local laws and ordinances, responds to calls for protection of life and property, conducts investigations, makes arrests, and performs other assigned duties to preserve peace. Duties include patrol and traffic activities, specialized assignments (K9, school resource, SWAT, training instruction, investigations), and may involve on‑call work during nights, weekends, and holidays. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, POST Basic Certification, and completion of a 16‑week Field Training Officer program.
Physical and mental demands include exposure to serious weather, heavy lifting, restraints, hazardous materials, and life‑threatening situations. Officers must maintain strong relationships with officials, employees, organizations, and the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol assigned areas of the city; enforce laws and ordinances.
- Maintain community presence and respond to calls for emergencies.
- Determine probable cause, identify suspects, take offenders into physical custody, refer charges, issue warnings and citations, perform field tests.
- Prepare reports of arrests, activities, and incidents.
- Conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations, collect evidence, conduct searches, and maintain safety.
- Coordinate detailed investigations of violent crimes, child abuse, property crimes, vice, gaming, and narcotics violations.
- Implement safety emergency plans and emergency drills; assist medical personnel and other agencies.
- Participate in ongoing training and stay updated on case law and traffic codes.
- Appear in court to provide testimony on scheduled days off.
