OverviewThrough the Gem State Public Health program, members will conduct needs assessments regarding collaborations and partnerships, recruit potential partnerships, coordinate meetings, design training materials, and provide other support to public health agencies. Members will be trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Sources of Strength (SOS), and safe
TALK. Members will coordinate ASIST, SOS and safe
TALK trainings for community members to increase the number of suicide prevention interventionists throughout Idaho. The program offers academic advising and the opportunity to explore degree options that focus on public health.
- Increasing, enhancing, and expanding the capacity of public health services offered through aiding in volunteer recruitment for various programs.
- Obtaining certification as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman.
- Engaging in friendly visits at long-term care facilities, facilitating friendly calls to combat social isolation among older adults, promoting mental health awareness.
- Distributing PRO Age Connections postcards and robotic pets, as well as participating in event planning across the seven counties in Southeast Idaho.
- Does not duplicate, supplant or displace staff.
Minimum Requirements
- Self-motivation and a positive attitude; actively seek to engage with the senior community; inspiration from experiences shared by older adults; genuine interest to support seniors.
