Overview

Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship s program provides an entry point to a career in health care by guiding you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and maintaining a high level of skill in the pharmacy care industry. The apprenticeship emphasizes patient-centric care and customer interaction, with access to tools and technology to support career growth.

This role is designed for individuals either new to pharmacies or with prior experience, who will be trained to use relevant pharmacy systems and perform supported duties under supervision.

Base pay range: $17.00/hr - $20.50/hr.

• In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy and in other Pharmacy Department duties per Company policies and procedures.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions; if PTCB certified, assist with and coach technicians in pharmacy systems operation and cashiers in pharmacy cash register operation.
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Build relationships with valuable customers and share customer service best practices with the team to deliver proactive service.
• Under pharmacist supervision, assist in pharmacy tasks, review and comply with the Pharmacy Code of Conduct, manage workflow, and ensure information is entered correctly in pharmacy systems.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, pouring, and verifying medications; communicate and resolve prescription errors with the pharmacist on duty.
• Handle cash register operations and assist customers in locating products; manage non-personal calls to physicians.
• Process (correct and resubmit) manual third-party prescription claims and perform related clerical duties.
• Assist and support inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, storing shipments, and related asset protection activities.
• May assist in administering clinical services (e.g., specimen collection and labeling) and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local medical staff and health care providers to support growth opportunities.
• Maintain clean, stocked, and orderly Pharmacy Department; comply with company policies and procedures.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated program or state requirements; certification may be required for promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training requested by management and pursue continuing education in healthcare and pharmacy trends.

• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior Walgreens experience.
• Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Prefer good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
