The Structural Engineer takes responsibility at an operational level for analyzing and prioritizing defect elimination of the Structural repair work.
- Create a safety culture through productive and authorized operational systems/processes that allow all employees (including contracting partners) to provide their outputs in a risk-controlled environment. Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Defect Elimination
- Develop and maintain structural maintenance standards.
- Update design criteria to be plant- and area-specific.
- Enhance training modules for Structural Maintenance.
- Provide monthly compliance reports to the Manager Engineer Structures, focusing on training and defect elimination.
- Create a detailed work plan prioritizing identified defects.
- Plan the Work
- Determine which prioritized tasks will be designed internally versus externally.
- Ensure all internal design work integrates into the Planned Maintenance System or Project Execution teams for implementation.
- Align external design work with project scope in collaboration with the Senior Structural Engineer and Project Engineer.
- Drive toward optimal installation rates and proactively manage cost outcomes.
- Resource the Assessments
- Appoint and manage Draughtsman resources to deliver internal design work based on prioritization.
- Oversee and sign off on internal designs and corrected structures.
- Operational Assistance
- Regularly review completed work with the project team to ensure compliance with standards.
- Provide ad hoc support to Operations where structural risks are identified, proposing interim and permanent solutions.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate the Design Work
- Ensure internal designs are delivered on time, at reduced cost, and meet quality standards.
- Assess project outcomes against planning-phase objectives.
- Maintain a strong focus on defect reduction and cost-per-ton improvements.
- Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity, supports engagement and fosters continuous improvement to work processes.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
- Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s license
- PrEng certificate
Experience:
- 4 years working experience in Structural design and defect prioritization
Technical knowledge (experience) required for role:
- Structural design and signoff
- Structural repair work in brown fields environment
- Knowledge of plant operations and their context
- Design of Temporary supporting solutions
- Risk management techniques and critical controls
