Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Chemical Engineer to lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at their operations in Polokwane. This vital role involves developing and implementing strategies to minimize environmental impact, manage waste streams, and ensure adherence to all local and national environmental regulations. You will work at the forefront of industrial environmental management, driving sustainable practices and contributing to the company's corporate social responsibility goals.
This is a significant opportunity for an engineer passionate about environmental stewardship in the chemical sector.
- Develop and implement environmental management systems (EMS) compliant with ISO 14001 standards.
- Oversee wastewater treatment, air emission control, and solid waste management processes.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new projects and modifications.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permits and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead sustainability initiatives, including resource efficiency and carbon footprint reduction projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental engineering, with a focus on the chemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and reporting in South Africa.
- Experience with wastewater treatment technologies and air pollution control systems.
- Strong project management and data analysis skills.
- Certification in environmental management (e.g., IEMA) is highly desirable.
