Mechanical Design Engineer - Industrial Equipment

Our client, a leading manufacturer of specialized industrial machinery and equipment, is actively seeking a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative team in Polokwane, Limpopo. This role is focused on the end-to-end design and development of robust, high-performance industrial equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong conceptual design skills, a thorough understanding of mechanical principles, and proficiency in CAD software.

You will be involved in all stages of the design process, from initial concept generation to detailed design, prototyping, and testing, ensuring that our client's products meet the highest standards of quality and functionality in the demanding South African industrial sector.

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for industrial machinery using advanced CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Inventor).
• Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs according to industry standards.
• Perform calculations for strength, stress, thermal, and dynamics analysis to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate with the R&D team to develop new product concepts and improve existing designs.
• Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective to produce.
• Build and test prototypes, analyze performance data, and make necessary design modifications.
• Troubleshoot design-related issues encountered during manufacturing or in the field.
• Research and evaluate new materials and technologies for potential application in product design.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Document design processes, test results, and technical specifications.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solid Works, Inventor, or similar) is essential.
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and material science.
• Experience with basic FEA and simulation tools is advantageous.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, and assembly.
• Ability to perform hand calculations for design validation.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems is a plus.
