Mechanical Engineering Intern - HVAC Systems

Our client, a leading firm in building services engineering, is looking for an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Intern to join their HVAC systems team in Polokwane, Limpopo. This internship provides an invaluable opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain practical, hands-on experience in the design, analysis, and implementation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for commercial and residential buildings.

You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects and learning essential engineering practices. This role is based entirely on-site at our Polokwane office, offering direct exposure to engineering processes and team collaboration.

• Assist senior engineers with the design and layout of HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection.
• Perform basic calculations for load estimations, airflow rates, and thermal performance.
• Utilize CAD software to create and modify HVAC drawings and schematics under supervision.
• Conduct site visits to observe installations and assist with basic site inspections.
• Support the engineering team in data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
• Learn and apply relevant industry codes, standards, and best practices for HVAC design.
• Participate in team meetings and design review sessions.
• Help troubleshoot minor issues encountered during the design or installation phases.
• Shadow experienced engineers to understand the full project lifecycle.

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in HVAC systems or thermal sciences.
• Basic proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is preferred.
• Good understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in a professional setting in Polokwane.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa and able to commute to our Polokwane office daily.
