Laboratory Analyst x 2
PurposeTo efficiently do quality control and laboratory processes by analysing products after production for approval, packing and standardising products to be in line with specifications.
Responsibilities- Calibration/verification of laboratory equipment as per schedules. Send product samples to clients and keep records of samples
- Prepare agars and ringers for microbiological analysis. Prepare agar plates for air sampling
- Microbiological analysis on hand swabs, air, surface swabs and rinse water for cleaning verification of equipment and tankers
- Sample preparation for external analysis: pathogens, heavy metals and pesticide screening as per procedures.
- Ensure Food Safety Management Systems are in place to systematically identify and minimise food safety risks by using proactive, preventative measures and controls.
- Ensure Pre‑requisite programs (PRP) are implemented and maintained to assist in controlling food safety hazards.
- Check chemical stock and report to order.
- Ensure tests are performed according to company procedures.
- Report deviations and non‑conformances immediately to the Manager.
- Receive and send inter‑laboratory samples to relevant people and arrange for testing. Analyses to be communicated to Manager.
- Arrange for testing of expired product and for the possibility of extending the shelf life. Tests performed include:
Brix, Acidity, colour and taste. - Sort and send samples and retention samples to relevant departments.
- Do daily micro testing on product and swabs. Tests: T/C, Yeast, Mould, Lacto, Coliforms, TAB, HRM.
- Assist with the following tests:
Brix, Acidity, pH, SO2, Viscosity when needed (weekend work). - Check labels daily and print /change if needed.
- Be responsible for ensuring that housekeeping and hygiene standards are implemented, maintained, and monitored across all departments.
- Supervise QC staff on shift, ensuring all quality control activities are performed effectively and timeously to meet production requirements, and report any deviations to the QC Manager.
- Filing of all QC related forms and documents
- Diploma in Food Technology/Analytical Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
- 3 years' experience in a food factory laboratory and quality control section.
- Have no criminal record
- Computer literate
- Good communication, bilingual and influencing skill
- Able to work under pressure
