Senior Scientist - Synthetic Organic Chemistry

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Scientist with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry to join their innovative research and development team in Polokwane . This role involves leading complex synthesis projects, developing novel chemical routes, and contributing to the discovery of new materials or compounds with unique properties. You will play a key role in problem-solving, mentoring junior chemists, and ensuring the efficient execution of synthetic strategies.

• Design, execute, and optimize synthetic routes for complex organic molecules, intermediates, and target compounds.
• Develop and implement innovative synthetic methodologies to overcome challenging chemical transformations.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using advanced analytical techniques, including NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and HPLC.
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and provide expert guidance to team members.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project objectives and deliver high-quality chemical products.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and contribute to internal reports and external publications.
• Ensure adherence to strict safety protocols and best practices in the laboratory environment in Polokwane .

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field with a strong focus on synthetic chemistry.
• Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry .
• Proven expertise in a broad range of organic reactions, including asymmetric synthesis, organometallic chemistry, and catalysis.
• Hands-on experience with modern analytical instrumentation for compound characterization.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage research projects and mentor junior scientists.
