Relay Program Engineer 2 — Southern California Edison (SCE)

In this role you’ll be part of the Test & Technology’s Relay Operations group within the Substation Construction and Maintenance (SC&M) organization, providing technical support, contributing to field and lab testing, relay configuration, and technology integration efforts.

Southern California Edison Pay Range

Base pay range: $99,400.00/yr – $/yr

Responsibilities
  • Providing remote and onsite technical support and guidance with applicable test methods for protective relays.
  • Supporting SC&M’s Substation Test Technicians, Test Contractors, and substation training on issues related to protective relays, substation automation, and control equipment.
  • Working across domains to develop standards and testing requirements.
  • Leading and influencing others to follow SCE’s safety protocols and safe work practices for engineering analysis of protection relay failures and developing corrective action.
  • Performing inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/troubleshooting, and improvements.
  • Ensuring system event assessments and root cause analysis are performed for equipment failures and implementing corrective actions, confirming mitigation plans are in place.
  • Preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducting independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Performing power system modeling and analyses using software tools and applications; staying informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology.
  • Ensuring day‑to‑day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards, including HSE and GMP quality and environmental and reliability standards.
  • Helping ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle.
  • Developing the engineering facility design, including electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one‑line diagrams, and selecting equipment.
  • Assisting in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers.
  • Acting as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions that require project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
  • Ensuring the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • Foundational knowledge of power system components, protection schemes, and grid operations.
  • Experience with relay setting and testing software such as GE Ener Vista UR Setup, SEL AcSELerator, and Doble Protection Suite.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and test plans.
  • Experience with data acquisition tools, test automation, or scripting.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive and detail-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
