Position: Ormco Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer (On-Site Pomona, CA)

Job Summary

The Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer is the subject matter expert for the development, operation, and maintenance of in‑line automation processes for Spark and Ormco production lines. The Sr. Process Engineer will develop and update engineering documents and investigate new tooling, materials, processes, and technologies for continuous improvement. This position is expected to work on‑site, enabling full engagement with colleagues and contribution to cross‑functional initiatives.

Primary

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and refine the Spark and Ormco production lines for the in‑line automated processes ensuring alignment with manufacturing principles.
  • Develop, test, verify and maintain the hardware and software used for Spark and Ormco production lines.
  • Develop, test and verify the methods and standard work used in the in‑line automated processes for Spark and Ormco production lines. Prepare training materials and manage the training of operators to those methods and standard work documents.
  • Train production teams and implement new automated processes effectively.
  • Monitor the in‑line automated processes for Spark and Ormco production lines used globally in all manufacturing sites and guide and assist in root cause analysis and countermeasure development for any issues that may arise.
  • Lead process development, design transfer, verification, and validation activities within the local quality management system to meet design requirements and manufacturability standards.
  • Lead projects from start to finish and work well with cross‑functional teams.
  • Identify root causes to problems and create then implement solutions.
  • Regularly report progress to the engineering team, both verbally and through written reports.
  • Develop product cost estimates, project cost, equipment cost and timeline estimates.
  • Provide technical input for capital appropriation requests.
  • Follow quality and safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by Manager.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing process engineering or R&D engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience with 3D CAD Software (Solid Works) and tools, including the ability to create, understand, and interpret complex assemblies and engineering drawings.
  • Experience working in an FDA‑regulated environment or similar regulated industry such as Aerospace or Automotive.
  • Experience with automation hardware and controls software is highly desired.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with tight tolerances is a plus.
  • Experience working with 3D printing, metal injection molding, and non‑contact metrology equipment and processes is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

  • Must possess excellent communication (technical, oral, written) and the ability to describe complex technical issues clearly.
  • Follow instructions and guidelines set forth by the Engineering Manager.
  • Support Spark and Ormco production goals regarding safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Sound understanding of regulatory and compliance documentation processes, review cycles and information repositories.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that create followership and motivate team members.
  • Driven and motivated individual with demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Unquestionably high ethical standards and attention to reputational and compliance risks.
  • Organized thinker that can prioritize tasks in real time and exercise judgment in a high‑paced environment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate rates, ratios and percent to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to discern trends and analyze operational and financial reports.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Must possess excellent technical judgment and be able to set logical action plans and technical problem resolution.
  • Competent with use of personal computers and strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.…
