Substation Designer – Southern California Edison (SCE)
Join the Clean Energy Revolution and help build a cleaner future by designing and detailing substation projects. In this role you will develop detailed drawings including One‑Lines, Elementary diagrams, Wiring diagrams, and Physical drawings using CAD software and internal standards.
Pay RangeBase pay: $111,600 – $167,400 per year (based on skills and experience).
Responsibilities- Provide full‑time technical support to operations and business unit staff.
- Manage subcontractor schedules for fielding and design deliverables, serve as vendor liaison, and maintain third‑party relationships.
- Document and maintain procedures and guidelines for day‑to‑day operational support.
- Track long‑term performance evaluations and ensure adherence to baseline requirements.
- Document field trips and product analysis to support continuous improvement of troubleshooting, installations, and robustness.
- Present project status updates to senior managers during weekly progress meetings.
- Develop scopes of work for pole owners and power utilities, including load analysis.
- Resolve incidents and problems, supporting monitoring and reporting of system performance in an Agile environment.
- Validate and maintain reference information, documentation, and databases for evaluating and engineering complex work requests.
- Perform in‑depth analysis, develop recommendations, and provide consulting for cross‑organizational technical issues.
- Lead or participate in specialized technical projects.
- Ensure protection of physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and manage private customer data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- Five or more years of experience in technical support.
- Valid Class C Driver’s License.
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Map 3D, Autodesk Inventor, Bluebeam, Design Manager, and Substation Design packages via SCE internal electronic process.
- Five or more years of electrical design experience.
- Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) toolkit.
- Experience creating 3D models.
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days and may work remotely for the remaining days. Employees must work and reside in California unless otherwise noted. Details will be discussed at interview.

- Primary work location is Pomona, CA, with possible extended work at alternate locations.
- Position requires up to 10% travel and field work throughout the SCE service territory.
- Position is a NERC/CIP impacted role; successful candidates must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation and complete required training prior to gaining unescorted access.
- Relocation does not apply to this position.
