Engineer 2 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll support all voltage levels from 12kV through 500kV with an immediate focus on distribution and sub‑transmission. Varying responsibilities include designing and modeling Transmission and Distribution lines using PLSCADD software to analyze long spans, transition spans, perform clearance checks, perform line studies, structure spotting and new line designs under guidance of supporting team.
Work across Southern California during field and construction site visits, collaborate with various organizations and groups to plan, design and execute projects to strengthen grid reliability and long‑term system performance. - Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/ tr , and overall improvements
- Ensures system event assessments & RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity
- Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
- Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology
- Ensures the performance of day‑to‑day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards
- Helps ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle
- Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one‑line diagrams, and selecting equipment
- Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers
- Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
- Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering
- Understanding of California General Order 95, NESC, and other applicable codes and resources.
- PLS‑CADD knowledge and experience with designing and analyzing transmission lines.
- Spica‑Calc knowledge and experience
- Ability to review transmission line drawings, data interface with suppliers, other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
- Motivated, driven, and detailed oriented ready to collaborate with various teams.
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.…
