Blood Bank Medical Technologist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Join the American Red Cross. You will perform basic and advanced donor and patient tests, interpret results, resolve compatibility problems, and provide consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. You will perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and interpret basic to complex donor/patient testing; complete quality control and resolve or elevate testing irregularities.
- Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
- Communicate with staff at other hospitals and transfusion services to resolve serologic problems and provide special transfusion units.
- Coordinate receipt, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples; manage reagents and maintain rare donor product inventory.
- Maintain and review computer and manual records; perform equipment and software maintenance, repair, and validation.
- Conduct internal training, competency reviews, and provide education to external customers.
Tuesday - Saturday 11p-7:30a. Minimal on‑call duties.
PayCalifornia: $51.50/hr.
What You Need To Succeed- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or Chemistry required.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist / MLS (ASCP) or Technologist in Blood Banking / BB (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist License required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work on a team.
- Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) and/or experience in a Reference Laboratory.
Requires standing, stretching, stooping, and bending for extended periods; lift, pull, push, and move objects up to 50 pounds; may work in walk‑in refrigerators/freezers; required to wear protective clothing such as lab coats, gloves, face shields, etc.
