Job SummaryTo facilitate student utilization of educational laboratory spaces.

- The ability to effectively, professionally and tactfully interact and communicate with faculty, students, and industry professionals
- The ability to manage projects and assignments in an efficient and effective manner
- Knowledge of the optometric examination equipment as well as vision screening equipment
- Basic skills in reasoning
- Education:
Student enrolled in the College of Optometry in good academic standing - Student must meet Federal Work Study (FWS) qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must have a completed current FAFSA
- Must have remaining financial aid unmet need
- Must be in good academic standing at Western University of Health Sciences
Experience:
Work experience in a service position preferred
- Open and close laboratory space at assigned times to facilitate student access to laboratory learning environment
- Monitor student utilization of laboratory space to ensure safe and appropriate usage of instrumentation
- Provide service as needed, e.g. access to lab materials, replacement of bulbs, troubleshoot malfunctions
- Provide regular cleaning and maintenance of laboratories and optometric equipment
- Other duties as assigned;
The University/College has the right to add or change duties at any time.
Approximately 6 hours per week – schedule varies

Expected Pay ScaleMinimum $17.00 Hourly, Maximum $17.00 Hourly
Physical DemandsEssential functions involve use of hands to operate a PC and handle laboratory objects; occasional lifting up to 10 pounds; requires close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to focus. Accommodations may be provided.
Work EnvironmentThe environment is an indoor, controlled healthcare setting. Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and electric shock. Requires compliance with safety protocols, OSHA blood‑borne pathogen training, and use of protective equipment. Noise level moderate.
