In this role, you will lead Major Construction Projects for SCE’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Organizational Unit, which is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000‑square‑mile territory. T&D ensures that electricity is safely and reliably delivered to 15 million residents via 5 million customer accounts.
The Senior Project Manager will lead multi‑disciplined teams that manage complex capital infrastructure projects, handling scope, cost, schedule, and risk. Responsibilities also include external agency licensing, permitting, approvals, and the use of various contracting methodologies (including EPC). As a team leader, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for project planning, scheduling, change management, risk management, cost management, financial reporting, internal executive governance review, external agency reviews, and oversight of major project contractors.
- Manages one or more large, long‑term and/or complex projects or programs with responsibility for results in terms of scope, schedule, cost/budget, and risk in accordance with the organization and company policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Develops strategy and business cases, objectives and initiatives related to projects and seeks approval from management; leads the development and management of the project schedule and budget, and manages the project change control process.
- Leads a large team of professionals and project managers (including SCE and supplemental ICs and leaders) and contractors; provides strategic and tactical leadership, oversees work performed, addresses performance issues, and makes decisions regarding project direction.
- Engages regularly with executive and senior management as a key consultant on critical business issues; presents project related issues and milestones for approval.
- Provides overall project leadership for safety, ensuring design compliance with the latest standards and injury‑free work.
- Maintains fiscal responsibility and approval authority related to projects; leads cost estimation, budgeting, expenditure approval, and review for SOX financial accountability.
- Initiates projects, forms and develops project teams, and leads project development—including scope definition, environmental assessment, agency representation, engineering, permit acquisition, land acquisition, construction planning, procurement, contract development, execution, management, quality assurance, testing, and close‑out.
- Ensures the protection of all physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and manages sensitive data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- Ten or more years of experience in construction project management.
- Experience structuring, negotiating and managing contracts.
- Experience working with environmental agencies in permitting infrastructure projects.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
- 7+ years experience in utility Transmission & Distribution with at least 5 years experience with California permitting (CEQA, NEPA).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or MA) a plus.
- 5+ years in project cost and schedule management; proficiency with Primavera.
- Experience in project risk analysis and management.
- Project Management certification.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong skills in resource planning, decision‑making, results delivery, and staying current with technology.
- Proven leadership in safety, problem‑solving, communication, teamwork, continuous improvement, and interpersonal influence.
