In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location.
Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Maximum: $26.52 Hourly

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Ability to read and write medical records and recommendations.
- Ability to calculate client’s bills, drug dosages, and dilutions.
- Ability to teach students in technical skills. Ability to supervise veterinary students and decide if intervention is required for the safety of students and/or nonhuman animals. Must possess the knowledge and ability to fairly evaluate and document veterinary student’s clinical/surgical skills.
- Ability to restrain, handle and perform a physical exam on a variety of animal species. Broad species experience is desirable.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for small animal preventive care recommendations (including nutrition, dentistry, behavior, and immunizations), veterinary medical terminology, veterinary medical procedures, surgical nursing, and basic sanitation and upkeep of veterinary medical equipment and environments.
- Ability to perform a variety of basic veterinary office procedures.
- Ability for logical, independent problem solving, and attention to detail and process.
- Must be able to interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff, students, clients and outside visitors/vendors.
- Ability to use computers for Internet searches and for Excel, Word and PowerPoint documents.
- Self-Starter.
- Demonstrated leadership.
- Is a Lead Primary RVT at one rotation sight or experience of a lead position at their previous employment.
- The ability to train new RVT staff at all RVT levels.
- Education: College Degree or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job.
- Completion of a degree from RVT school.
- RVT License in the State of California.
- Experience:
- Entry level, no experience necessary or up to 5 years of experience in general practice.
- A valid California Driver’s License is required, as the role involves travel to off-site locations as part of regular job responsibilities.
- Education:
Completion of internship/externship while in RVT school.
