The Controller will oversee all financial operations of our small business. This position is responsible for managing accounting processes, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and cash flow. The Controller will work closely with ownership and management to support strategic decisions and ensure the company’s financial health.
Responsibilities- Oversee and coordinate all financial activities and personnel
- Set controls and budgets to mitigate risk and increase return on investments
- Standardize and maintain a system of accounting records and techniques
- Conduct internal audits to assess financial status
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Serve as primary contact for external auditors and assist with audits, external reviews, and interactions with CPAs, tax advisors, and other consultants
- Supervise and support accounting/finance staff (if applicable)
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements
- Monitor internal controls, implement process improvements, and safeguard company assets
- Manage banking relationships, including bank statement reconciliations, cash management, loans, and credit lines
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business growth and cost control
- Support management in strategic planning, investment decisions, and business development initiatives
- Oversee annual insurance renewals / quotes
- Oversee liability and utility damage claims
- Previous experience in accounting management or related fields
- Fundamental knowledge of GAAP
- Strong leadership qualities
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Deadline and detail-oriented
