Job Summary

As a full‑time Pool Lifeguard, you’ll serve as a frontline safety leader at our Aquatic Centers, ensuring the well‑being of our guests while participating in high‑quality aquatic programs.

From teaching swim lessons to leading aqua fitness classes, your role will be both rewarding and impactful.

• Vigilantly monitor patrons and respond quickly to emergencies
• Provide first aid and emergency care, including CPR and AED usage
• Teach swim lessons and lead water aerobics and aqua therapy classes
• Help coordinate competitive and recreational aquatic events
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming pool environment
• Troubleshoot and assist with basic maintenance and chemical balance of pool systems
• Supervise and train part‑time aquatic staff as needed
• Collect pool fees and manage transactions using recreation management software as needed
• Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service
• Enforce City ordinances
• Perform related duties as required

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Knowledge of competitive aquatic programming, water safety rules, and regulations
• Ability to establish rapport with the general public, fellow workers, and supervisors

• Valid Florida driver’s license
• Nationally recognized lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross or other acceptable agency
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer
• First Aid and Safety certification from the American Red Cross or other acceptable agency
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification
• Must obtain Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent certification from the American Red Cross or other acceptable agency within one year of hire
• Must obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification within one year of hire
• Must obtain Bloodborne Pathogens and Oxygen Administration certification within one year of hire
• American Red Cross Instructor certification preferred
• EMT certification preferred (7% salary increase upon State of Florida EMT certification)
• Must pass required swim test (annually), physical, and drug screening

• Strong understanding of water safety and emergency response procedures
• Ability to maintain composure and respond effectively in high‑pressure situations
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and public service

• Range of work from sedentary to extreme labor‑intensive activity, depending on rescue situations
• Physical abilities include running, walking, pulling, pushing, climbing, carrying, and lifting
• Specific sensory abilities include hearing, talking, and seeing
• Work performed outdoors under all weather conditions

This position requires a Level II background check.

Work Days/Hours

Hours will vary between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., 40 hours a week, including weekends/holidays.
