This position is for enrolling and completing the training course Level 1 provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing. Paragon is a 15-week virtual distant learning program guiding students through fundamentals in bathing and grooming, safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy and physiology, using hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and submitting photos of practical application for grading.

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts with varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
  Thank the Customer;
  Engage with the customer and/or pet;
  Advise products or services;
  Make it memorable.
• Learn and perform a combination of duties during the training program, including:
• Enroll and complete the Paragon Level 1 training within the five-week timeline
• Safe pet handling
• Bathing, drying, brushing and combing all coat types
• Nail trimming
• Ear cleaning
• Preparatory hair trimming
• Basic clipper and finishing techniques
• Customer service skills and professionalism
• Equipment handling and maintenance
• Ensure safety and well-being of animals
• Inspect animals for parasites, disease, or injury and report findings
• Practice safety and sanitization protocols
• Sanitize and maintain grooming tools and equipment
• Assist in generating business by calling existing and new customers, scheduling appointments, follow-ups, and reminders
• Maintain records of pet clients and vaccination records
• Operate computer as needed
• Recovery of store if needed
• Ensure safety and well-being of live animals and sanitation of holding areas
• Complete all documentation related to duties
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

Comfortable working with dogs and cats. Ability to demonstrate patience and compassion for animals. Must provide own tools (clippers, blades, shears) or be willing to purchase required tools.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered. Regardless of education level, applicants must be able to read, write and count accurately.

• Operate and use grooming tools and equipment including bathing tubs, brushes, combs, scissors, clippers, dryers, and bathing products
• Communicate effectively with associates and customers

• Generally indoor environment with moderate noise
• Exposure to sharp grooming instruments, shampoos, pets, and pet waste
• Exposure to wet conditions, especially during bathing
• Exposure to cats and dogs of all sizes and temperaments
• Shift lengths vary by store; typically not less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours
• Maintain a safe and productive work environment per safety guidelines
• Hard surface floors; adequate lighting and temperature

• Move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise up to 50 pounds
• Stand or remain stationary for extended periods while grooming
• Move for extended periods around the salon to groom, clean, and stock
• Use grooming instruments including shears and dryers
• Lift or reach merchandise overhead as needed
• Bend, kneel, and squat to groom animals and stock
• Operate store equipment (computer, cash register)
• Read, write and count accurately to complete documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication with team members and customers
• Non-sedentary position; ability to move quickly and safely
