Responsibilities- Oversee the personnel (drivers and mechanics) within our transportation division, reporting directly to the Lead Fleet Manager.
- Hire, train and supervise all driver and fleet operations.
- Coordinate the operations and logistical functions of the employees, ensuring daily production goals are met and aligning employee activities with company values and goals.
- Determine manpower requirements for daily operational needs with input from the dispatch staff.
- Aid in the scheduling of routine and urgent maintenance between drivers and mechanics.
- Receive driver concerns and relay them to management for resolution.
- Coordinate with payroll to guarantee accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Assist in identifying and implementing continuous‑improvement opportunities regarding SOC Transportation services.
- Schedule yearly VAPE tests and coordinate with dispatchers to organize inspections.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules, regulations, and DOT compliance.
- Direct investigations into customer complaints, responding appropriately.
- Enforce compliance with administrative policies, procedures and regulations.
- Coordinate and schedule driver safety meetings.
- Manage the Cintas account, including uniform orders, collection and invoice reconciliation.
- Conduct meetings with supervisors and employees to update them on pertinent changes to Shepherd Oil and the trucking industry.
- Update truck and trailer permits and ensure annual inspection reports are up to date.
- Outfit trailers with necessary hoses and fittings and perform a monthly trailer inventory.
- Assist in interviewing driver applicants and conducting road tests.
- Coordinate with the safety consultant, Fleet Manager, driver, and insurance company in the event of an SOC driver accident.
- Assist the Fleet Manager with discipline procedures for drivers and provide corrective training as needed.
- Assist in administering the Omnitracs electronic log system.
- Aid in ordering truck tires and managing inventory controls.
- Complete monthly yard inspections of all terminals, including fuel tank inspection.
- Communicate effectively via phone and e‑mail.
- Maintain relationships with vendors, other facilities, other trucking companies and their drivers.
- Travel will be required between all transportation locations – expected to be 50 % or more of travel time.
- Lead the team by setting an example in behavior, championing Shepherd Oil values and ensuring all employees are treated with respect, while maintaining open, accurate, and timely two‑way communication with drivers.
- Work a base schedule of Monday‑Friday 8 am‑5 pm with an expected work week of 45–50 hours per week, occasionally exceeding this; some overnight travel may be necessary.
- 5 years’ experience in management and operations.
- Experience in the delivery/trucking industry required.
- Preferred experience in fuel hauling industry, including driving.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Strong team‑building talents.
- Ability to create, implement, and monitor training programs.
- Organized, with a strong work ethic.
- Intermediate computer skills and knowledge.
- Demonstrated excellence as an empowering leader in a dynamic, fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.
- Ability to evaluate alternatives and make value‑based decisions.
- Solid judgment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills; proven record of taking initiative and responsibility.
- Ability to function well in a high‑stress environment.
- Effective communication and listening skills with diverse opinions and backgrounds.
- Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements.
